Making Web Accessibility Sexy

Accessibility doesn't have to be boring, ugly, painful to implement and harm the user experience for those who don't have a disability (although all too often, it winds up being at least at least one of the above).

Find out how to make accessibility sexy (for everyone) with these practical hints and tips.

Bio

Ann McMeekin is passionate about accessibility and good design (whether on the web or in the real world) and doesn't believe that one has to be sacrificed to achieve the other. This is something she's argued for several years, both for work and to anyone else who'll sit still long enough to listen (and often those who don't).

She joined RNIB in 2001 and moved into the Web Access team in July 2003. When a vacancy arose to become a Consultant, she grabbed the opportunity and worked in that role from January 2005 to March 2008. During that time, she provided advice, consultancy and training to a diverse range of clients from small charities to large multi-national companies.

Before joining RNIB, Ann was the senior web designer for a web development company and was responsible for creating accessible website templates and for designing accessible websites for clients who wanted a customised design.

She now works as a freelance Accessibility Consultant and designer/developer, and on top of that, continues to do webstuff in her spare time.

Her sadly neglected blog lives at http://www.pixeldiva.co.uk waiting patiently for its turn for some love and attention.
